2011, our first year with our full line-up was an amazing set of experiences for us and we couldn't have asked for more. From several milestone studio sessions, to rockin' nights at the Boom Boom Room, to costumed showcases of face-melting, to our first dates on the road, there's one thing that connects all these experiences for us - you, the fans! Thanks to all those who made 2011 such a success for us and we can't wait to up the ante again in 2012. Our first opportunity is with special guest Acron Project of Bellingham, Wa. After everyone's done rockin' in the new year, it'll be time to celebrate the last one while we got it... if the Mayan's were right, this party should rock until the world ends! We're off to spend the summer with friends, family and our favorite musicians and will return to continue melting faces in Fall. But don't worry, we stopped by our favorite studio, Different Fur, to lay down some ole-school tracks that will be produced and ready for mass consumption as part of our first full length EP come our Fall return. Make sure to like us on Facebook or join our email list to get the updates when we return! Until then - enjoy the summer, go see live & local music and remember to keep shakin' your hips!

Thanks to all those who came out to the Boom Boom Room on Saturday night. It was great to see all your faces and to officially welcome Kenny Crowley to the group in style. For those of you who were not able to attend, or just need another fix, we have a few videos from the night we want to share with you... Enjoy!
It's been a short while since we took the stage, but we want to let all the fans know we're excited about this weekend's gig at The Boom Boom Room opening for The Staxx Brothers. Lots of new and exciting things have been going on with us and we're saving one of the biggest for everyone this weekend. While we won't talk about this... "Thing?!" right now, we can talk about the other exicting "Things" that we've been up to... Like playing w/ Kenny Crowley of The Jolly Good Fellows, spending a few nights in January recording at legendary DIfferent Fur Studios in the Mission, and writing some new material (some you can hear this weekend).
Check out The Staxx Brothers in their music video for 'Name Dropper'
We're happy to announce the addition of Kenny Crowley to our lineup. Kenny brings a lot to the table with his talented rhythm guitar playing, and balls-out blues styling vocals. He's also an accomplished harmonica and ukelele player, and a general jack-of-all-musical-trades kind of guy. We're all very excited for what is to come.
Kenny joined us for our first trip into the studio this weekend. We had a blast, and put down a great foundation. We can't wait to get back in and finish things up. Check out some pics
Oh...and watch out for some upcoming shows...
1/8/11: Following a very relaxing few weeks for the Holidays, we're all back and making noise as we get started in 2011. We have some studio time planned for the end of the month and in February. We're also excited to be jamming with a new member and want you to listen to a few new recordings we've made in our practice space of some old classics! Hope you enjoy! Also, check out a recent video post from our Bistro show last November.
We just uploaded a new jam for your listening pleasure. And look out for a new line-up as we continue to make it happen in 2011.
Big tippers and big boppers! Last night was an evening of great SF psych rock set across the pond. No, not England... Hayward! Nestled amongst the hub-bub of downtown Hayward, Soda Pop Junkies and Guella filled the quaint beer hall with sounds of soul, groove and smiles. And, as in SPJ's unexpected fashion, the front row dance floor saw its share of hip shaking and hoots!
Closing out our schedule for 2010, we're now focused on development of our roster as well as a few new songs to line up a whole new experience for 2011 assured to take SPJ's to the next level of play and performance. We don't want to give away too much milk now before you buy the cow, so you'll just have to check back every now and again to see what's coming next. And keep an eye out for emails letting you know when that will be...
SPJ's would also like to thank all those who helped to make this year such a great success for an aspiring band that less than a year ago didn't really exist! Without the help of these individuals and organizations, we know we couldn't have done this - so again, THANKS! And we look forward to doing it again in 2011!
Special thanks to:
All the fans who, without you, there would be no SPJ's...

Friday night at the Rock-it Room definitely Rocked. Thanks to The Jolly Good Fellows and Guella for another great night of local music. We're feelin' the groove and we know you guys are too, so let's keep this soul train a chuggin'.
This Thursday, Novemeber 11th, we'll be teaming up again with our phriends from Guella as we head across the pond for the East Bay'ers and touch down at The Bistro in Hayward. Music starts around 9 PM and admittance is FREE! This will be our last show in good 'ole twenty-ten, so don't miss it!!!

Well, Halloween excursions are over and The Giants have won their first World Series, but the celebration doesn't have to stop there! Come join us on Friday night at The Rock-it Room for a stellar reprise of September's Blue Macaw gig.
We'll be openning the night roughly at 8:30 PM with a special set which is sure to get the night started on the right foot. Then stick around to groove out to The Jolly Good Fellows & Guella.
Explosions of the scene... Thanks to everyone who made it out to the BoomBoomRoom on Thursday night to see SPJ's and Acorn Project. Over a hundred of you showed up, making this our largest show to date. SPJ's were enthrawled to have the curtain's lifted as we opened with 'Nothing Left to Give' and to have the house rockin' through the whole set. Special thanks to Chris Moe for his southern Harmoinica on several songs.
We're off to celebrate Halloween in various ways, some in Atlantic City others in New Orleans, but we'll be back in action in early November to help you wind down for the holidays. Come check out the SPJ's at these up coming dates:
If you're sticking around SF for Halloween, here are a few events we would like to be at... Sat. 10/30
Haunted Hotel Utah - Featuriung AllofaSudden
Gov't Mule @ the Fox in Oakland
Sun. 10/31
ZIGABOO MODELISTE - Pier 23 (4 PM)
Halloween Albino! - Independent (for more musical happenings around the Bay, check out the Biss List)
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Or is it shiney side up? Either way, this weekend plans to be a fists-in-the-air, romp shaking good time. Several of us are headin' across the pond (no, not the big pond - just the bay) to catch a few nights of Widespread Panic. We all have our favorite artists we grew up on, this is John Dering's favorite. So if you're from the south, like the south, or are a Panic fan, come out and share the weekend with some Good People.
Even more exciting is our up-coming debute at The BoomBoomRoom opening for Acorn Project. And apparently they covered some Panic at their Seattle date last Friday, so the time is right, the mood is set... It's gonna be a week of solid tunes, good times, and memories of a life time!
Watch litlle brotha skwirm...
Thanks to our fans who made it out on short notice to the Hotel Utah last night. We had a great time playing with Tauk, Atomic Tom, & Driven and wish them well on the rest of their tours. Now it's time to take a few weeks off for rehearsals, but don't worry... We'll be back in style on Oct. 21st @ The BoomBoomRoom opening for Bellingham, WA's Acorn Project. Here's a quick video from a recent visit by Acorn Project at the BoomBoomRoom.
Get Psyched!
Tuesday Septemeber 28th, Soda Pop Junkies will be opening for Tauk at the Hotel Utah. Music will begin promptly at 8 PM (and we mean 8 PM)...
Since forming earlier this decade, the Long Island-based quintet, Tauk, have built an impressive DIY buzz, scoring opening gigs for O.A.R, earning slots at top festivals like Gathering of the Vibes (alongside Buddy Guy and Bob Weir and Ratdog) and being featured on Fuse TV. Their profile is only going to grow with the release of their first full-length album, Brokedown King.
Collaberating with Grammy-winning producer Robert Carranza [Jack Johnson, Mars Volta], Tauk harnessed their eclectic vision, split between three months and three studios - Jack Johnson’s solar-powered Solar Plastic Power Plant in Los Angeles, historic Ocean Way Recording in Hollywood, CA, and One East Recording back home in New York.
Last Thursday at The Blue Macaw was the beginning of something special. Accompanied by Guella and The Jolly Good Fellows, a new San Francisco music scene has taken its roots. These guys are great people and even better musicians and SPJ's are excited to play with them in the future.
Thanks to all those who attended and made the experience for us so great. And with such wonderful bands coming together to bring the peopel of SF music to melt their face, we know that the broken intertia of the evening will only snowball into the driving momentum this city has been lacking from local musicians for so long.
Stay tuned for a secret show next week you don't want to miss, and announcements about up coming shows in Novemeber at the Rock-it-Room and in the new year!
Thanks to all those who stopped by and listened to us at the 36th Annual Solano Stroll Street Festival 2010 as well as to those who work so hard year after year to make this event such a success. We had a blast playing for the community of Berkeley!
Special thanks to:
Jodie - for the great chicken and warm hospitatlty
Mike - for beefin' up the email list
The Crew - cause ya'll make it all worth it!
New Bay Area dates for October and November will be announced next week, but this week we want your attention turned to Thursday night when SPJ's will be headlining The Blue Macaw w/ good friends Guella & The Jolly Good Fellows.
8/30/2010
We just finished playing up at Summer Home Park again. We all had a blast (and sorry for those who were hoping to hear the re-worked SPJs with our new keyboard player - he was sick) and can't wait to do it again next year.
Now it's back to the studio to get ready for some more shows coming up. Get ready for Sept. 16th in the Mission, and October 22nd in the Richmond.
Friday the 13th.... oooooo, scary!
As you keep an eye out for Jason, keep in mind SPJ's are excited to announce two up-coming shows in NorCal. Check out details below:
August 28th, 2010 @ Summer Home Park September 16th, 2010 @ The Blue Macaw
